An early 18thC George I giltwood table with a Japanese lacquer topAn early 18thC English table,in the manner of or possibly by royal cabinetmaker James Moore, the simple stand in gilded wood, featuring a beautiful japanned lacquer top with ducks. The use of oriental decoration here illustrates the contemporary fashion in royal and noble circles for this mode of design. This relates closely to Chinese furniture produced in the 16 century. James Moore ( 1670-1726) known as the King's Cabinetmaker, was responsible for a table in the Royal Collection at Hampton Court, dated 1715, which bears Moore's signature and is related to this table.
